Kala KA-FMSG Solid Spruce Flame Maple Soprano Ukulele • Review & Specs

Description

The KA-FMSG is a soprano-sized ukulele with a solid Sitka spruce top and flame maple back/sides.

The solid top offers more bass, resonance, and volume than the laminated tops found on many beginner ukuleles.

The maple used for the back and sides appears to be spalted. Spalting is a discoloration caused by fungi in the wood, and it usually takes the form of dramatic dark streaks. Spalting adds an interesting look to the wood and does not affect the wood’s structural or tonal properties.

The KA-FMSG has wood binding and rosette as well as a high-gloss finish.

This model is available in two other sizes: the concert-sized KA-FMCG and the tenor-sized KA-FMTG.

Kala KA-FMSG Review

I have not yet reviewed the Kala KA-FMSG. However, I’m generally a fan of Kala products and feel that they make very good ukuleles for the money.

As the manager of a small music store, I’ve played hundreds of Kala ukes and they have been consistent good instruments.
